Suzuki unveiled the new generation Swift in Japan late last year with its international debut taking place at the Geneva Internation Motor Show in March 2017. World will get the new Swift only by early 2018. There are good chances that Maruti Suzuki will add new variants to the Swift lineup in World. Among these new variants could be the Swift Sport and Swift RS. While the Swift RS badge was used earlier for a special edition model, this time around a more powerful variant of the Swift could be seen sporting the badge in World. Like the Baleno RS, Maruti might consider launching the Swift with the 1.0 L Boosterjet engine under the Swift RS moniker. Read on to know more about what the 2018 Maruti Swift RS could be like.
2018 Maruti Swift RS – Design
The Swift RS will look slightly different from the standard variants of the hatchback. At the front, it gets a mesh grille, a sportier bumper and a red stripe running across the grille. There will be projector headlamps and LED DRLs on offer as well. At the back, much like the front end, the Maruti Swift RS gets a sportier bumper along with LED tail lights. The side profile features new alloys wheel design and side skirts. Akin to the new Baleno RS and the Ciaz RS (that was on sale until recently), the Maruti Suzuki Swift RS looks much more sporty than the standard car. The flat bottom steering wheel seen in the images of the new 2017 Suzuki Swift could make it to the RS variant in World. Also, expect it to get an all black interior treatment. Maruti did not make any changes to the Baleno RS’ interiors in comparison to the standard Baleno. The manufacturer could adopt a similar approach with the 2018 Maruti Swift RS.
2018 Maruti Swift RS World Specifications
|Engine Type/ Displacement||1.0-litre L Petrol|
|Top Speed (est)||199 KMPH|
|Acceleration (0-100 km/h) (est)||11-12 Seconds|
|Transmission (Gearbox)||5-speed MT|
As we mentioned earlier, the Swift RS could feature the Baleno RS’ 1.0 L Boosterjet petrol engine. While in the past, Maruti has used the RS suffix for merely cosmetic upgrades (Ciaz, Swift), they have only one RS model on sale currently in the form of the Baleno RS. It is possible that MSIL has now reserved the RS suffix only for performance oriented models. The standard Swift range will get the current model’s 1.2 L petrol and 1.3 L engines.
Suzuki Swift RS on sale in Japan features the same 1.2 L Petrol engine as the other variants with no gain in power. We will get a clear idea of what approach Maruti adopts for World regarding the Swift RS closer to its launch. Assuming, they do decide to bring it here.

|2018 Maruti Swift RS||Rs. 7.50 lakh|
Like the new Baleno RS, the Swift RS could also cost around a lakh or so more than the top of the line Swift 1.2 Petrol. Our guess is that if Maruti does launch the Swift RS in World with a 1.0 L Boosterjet engine, it will cost around Rs. 7.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
2018 Maruti Swift RS World Mileage
|Claimed Overall Fuel Efficiency (estimated)||21-22 KMPL|
As is the case with the Baleno RS, the Swift RS, assuming it comes to World and gets the 1.0 L Boosterjet, could return around 21-22 KMPL overall.
