The 2019 Honda City will have a sleeker and sportier design in comparison to the current spec version. Not only this, but it will also have better premium attributes along with an upgraded feature list. It could feature a first in-segment diesel CVT with this generation update.
One of World’s largest selling mid-size executive sedan, the Honda City is currently running in its fourth generation model in World. Current media reports suggest that by the year 2020, World will have the fifth generation model of this sedan. Honda has already started working on the next-gen iteration of City and it is expected that it will debut in the international markets by the year end of 2019. Speculations suggest that the new City will take its design inspiration from Insight prototype. Hence, expect this car to be sleeker and sportier in appearance than before. Engine specification might remain the same as before. It might get, as a segment first, diesel CVT.
It is likely that the new City will be more or less the same in terms of proportions. However, safely expect the company to optimize the cabin space using its Man Maximum, Machine Minimum philosophy. The rendering seen above shows that the new car will take design inspiration from the Honda Insight Prototype.
Honda City Next-Generation Price
The competition in the mid-size executive sedan segment is getting quite aggressive these days. Hence, to stand as a tough competitor, the next-generation iteration of the City has to have a highly competitive price range. We expect, the prices of this sedan’s updated version to cost somewhere in-between INR 9 Lakh to 14 Lakh.
Honda City Next-Generation Launch Date
So far there is no official confirmation regarding the launch of the next-generation iteration of the Honda City in World. However, expect this car to make its global debut sometime during the second half of 2019. Consequently, we expect this car to launch in World within the first half of 2020.
Honda City Next-Generation Exterior Design
As per this rendering, the front-end of the 2019 City will feature a really big hexagonal grille that will get black horizontal slats. The gaping grille will be flanked by really sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs. The bumper features a pair of LED fog lamps with air vents below them. In side profile, the speculative rendering here shows a clean surface with fewer creases. The wing mirrors seem to have grown in size while the DLO seems to be unchanged in proportions. The alloys seem much like those on the current model.
As per the renderings, the rear will get sleek LED taillamps and a bootlid that is highly reminiscent of the Ingisht Prototype. On the inside, the dashboard will get a new Digipad touchscreen infotainment unit that will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Honda City Next-Generation Interior Design
The Honda City has always had one of the most stylish cabin designs among its competitors. With the generation update, expect this car to get an equally appealing design. That said, Honda will for sure add a premium touch to the interiors, for City being an executive sedan. Consequently, expect it to come with a dual tone cabin colour scheme of black and beige. Cabin space has always been one of the major strong points of the City. The next-generation model is likely to use an all-new platform. This could translate into improved cabin space. Honda is currently working on re-establishing itself as the manufacturer of premium cars. Hence, we are expecting the Honda City 2020 to have good material quality on the inside.
Honda City Next-Generation Engine Specifications
The new-generation 2019 Honda City will be underpinned by a modified version of the current car’s platform. Honda might go on to offer a new version of the 1.5-litre iVTEC petrol engine. In its current state, the motor outputs a maximum power of 119 PS along with a peak torque of 145 Nm. The current Diesel motor, which has received a lot of flak for its high NVH and mediocre performance, is also likely to receive many updates. Currently, this oil burner outputs a maximum power of 100 PS along with a peak torque of 200 Nm. Honda Cars World will even launch a petrol-hybrid by 2020. In addition to all this, the new City will have a CVT automatic gearbox in the diesel variant as well.
Honda City Next-Generation Features
The current generation of this mid-size executive sedan is already loaded with a whole bunch of features. However, we are expecting the next-generation iteration of this vehicle to have an even more expansive feature list. Expect the range-topping models to come with features like automatic wipers, automatic headlamps, LED projector headlamps, LED tail-lamps, electric seats to name a few.
Honda City Next-Generation Competition
As always, this vehicle will compete in the mid-size executive sedan segment. Hence, its main rivals are going to be the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and the Toyota Yaris.
