The Korean automaker plans to introduce 9 new cars by the year 2020. Several of these will be SUVs, sedans and hatchbacks. In the recent years, Hyundai has been aggressively closing the gap between its sole rival, Maruti Suzuki. Hyundai launched the Elite i20 facelift at the 2018 Auto Expo. The new i20 received a number of visual as well as hardware upgrades. On the outside, the new i20 features cascading front grille, reshaped bumpers, bigger tail lights with new graphics, redesigned tailgate and repositioned license plate. Apart from these, Hyundai introduced two new attractive colours on the i20, namely, Passion Orange and Fiery Red. On the inside, the new i20 features new rear armrest with cupholders, upgraded infotainment system with fewer buttons and more functions like Auto Link mobile app for monitoring various vehicle functions and health.
Under the hood of the 2018 Hyundai Elite i20 is the 1.2-litre petrol engine which comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The 1.4-litre diesel engine is now offered with a 6-speed gearbox. Several reports suggested that the 1.2-litre petrol engine might be offered with a CVT but sadly that didn’t happen.
Below is a detailed features list of the 5 variants of the new 2018 Hyundai Elite i20.
Hyundai has carefully priced the refreshed Elite i20 with the difference between the petrol and diesel variants across the lineup being INR 1.2 to INR 1.4 lakh. To justify the price difference, we suggest you calculate your average daily use and if it is less than 60 km, go for the petrol, if more than obvious diesel will suit you better.
If you are on a tight budget, we would suggest you go for Magna Era variant instead of the base Era model. While safety features like dual front airbags and ABS are standard across the range, Magra Era offers various comfort features like music system with six speakers, rear AC vents, all 4-door power windows, cooled glove box, electrically adjustable ORVMs, front armrest, body coloured door handles and mirrors.
For the fearless at spending, the new Hyundai Elite i20’s Asta variant would suit best as it delivers the best of features and performance. The tech on board along with the added safety features makes this variant a really great value for money. The Asta model features 15-inch alloy wheels, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Android Auto and Apple Car Play, Arkamys Sound Mood, automatic climate control and adjustable steering wheel. The list of features continues to steering-wheel-mounted controls, electric folding ORVMs, eight speakers, height adjustable driver seat, rear defogger, front fog lamps and daytime running lights.
Lastly, for those really concerned with safety, the Asta (O) offers side and curtain airbags along with automatic projector headlamp, keyless entry-go, 16-inch alloy wheels, rear seat armrest and an advanced MID. All of this is available at an additional cost of just INR 80,000 over the Asta variant. We hope this article helps you choose the best variant for your next Elite i20 purchase.
