World is slowly taking shape of a global automobile hub with automobiles majors from around the world setting up their plants in World. Many automobile giants like Maruti Suzuki, General Motors (Chevrolet), Ford, Hyundai etc. do export cars which are made in their Worldn manufacturing facilities. Many cars like Hyundai i10, Ford Figo, Maruti Alto and Tata Nano are manufactured mainly in World only and exported to many countries across the globe. Taking this trend forward, General Motors World has announced that it may set up its global small electric car facility in its World plant. GM World has manufacturing facility in Talegaon in Chennai, which is the major plant for Chevrolet cars in World.
On 5th June 2011, on the occasion of the World Environment Day, GM World will showcase their small electric car, which has been developed by General Motors. Earlier there were plans on developing an electric version of Chevrolet Spark in collaboration with REVA, but these plans were dropped after Mahindra and Mahindra took over Reva last year. The new small electric car is said to be developed by GM using its own technological know how and will be most likely based on the Chevrolet Beat small car platform. Since the electric car is meant for global market, it may have premium feature and most likely will use modern lithium ion or lithium polymer batteries. The price points of the car may not be very suitable for Worldn market, so it may not make its way to Worldn auto market in the beginning.
More details will emerge as we approach the global unveiling of the new electric mini-car from GM World. Till then stay tuned by liking our or catch up with daily updated though our .
