Mumbai-Pune Expressway toll to go up by 18 per cent from 1 April
The toll for vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be increased by 18 per cent with effect from 1 April, 2023, according to officials of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Four-wheelers, such as cars, will now have to pay Rs 320 instead of Rs 270.
Although the toll of Mumbai-Pune Expressway increases by six per cent annually, it is implemented cumulatively at 18 per cent after every three years, as laid down in a government notification dated 9 August, 2004, an MSRDC senior official told PTI.
More to the point, the new toll will cost Rs 320 for four-wheelers instead of Rs 270. Similarly, vehicles such as mini-bus or tempo will have to pay Rs 495, as per the new toll hike, instead of Rs 420, another official stated. Buses will have to pay Rs 940 for buses instead of Rs 797.
Furthermore, the toll for two-axle trucks will increase to Rs 685 from Rs 585, while three-axle trucks will have to pay Rs 1,630 instead of Rs 1,380. Meanwhile, the new toll for multi-axle trucks and machinery vehicles will cost Rs 2,165 instead of Rs 1,835.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is the country's first-ever controlled-access motorway and is used by about 1.5 lakh vehicles every day. The six-lane expressway covers a distance of approximately 95km between the cities. Notably, it was fully operational in 2002. In other news, MSRDC recently announced that it will commence the expansion work of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway later this year.
