Tata Nexon EV teased ahead of September 7 debut

Tata Motors has released a teaser of the next Nexon.ev facelift ahead of its September 7 introduction, after the unveiling of the Nexon facelift. The modifications and enhancements will be similar to what we saw on the newly released ICE-powered Nexon makeover but with some differences.

The teaser also verifies the '.ev' branding for Tata's freshly renamed electric vehicle division's Nexon electric version. The pre-facelift model just carried an 'EV' suffix to distinguish it from the ICE rivals.

Tata Nexon.ev: Design

The teaser shows the Nexon.ev's nose, which has a full-width LED light bar like the Curvv idea, and the remainder of the design is also influenced by the concept. The Nexon.ev also features a single-tone body-coloured finish for the top section of the nose, which has a contrasting black finish on the Nexon ICE models.

The linked tail light design appears to be a carbon replica of the ICE-powered Nexon, but we believe there will be some distinguishing features here as well. The shape was not shown, but the EV will have somewhat aerodynamic alloy wheels to help with range.

Tata Nexon.ev: Interior

The cabin was not teased, although the layout of the dashboard should be the same, with a few EV-specific features to signify its nature (again). As a result, the inside will be highly digital, with touch-sensitive AC and steering-mounted controls, a large 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display.

Aside from the new and larger displays, the Nexon.ev's feature set is slated to expand significantly, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, and up to six airbags.

According to sources, Tata Motors will likely drop the 'Prime' and 'Max' prefixes from the Nexon EV, instead calling them 'Medium Range' (MR) and 'Long Range' (LR) models. These will most likely be divided into four primary trims: Smart, Pure, Creative, and Fearless, however the exact split between the MR and LR versions is still uncertain.

There is no information on the Nexon EV facelift's engine specifications, although Tata may be able to squeeze out a bit more range from the existing battery options of the previous model, which include a 30.2kWh battery in the Prime and a 40.5kWh battery pack in the Max. The latter claims a range of up to 453km, while the former claims a range of 312km.

The Prime is equipped with a 129PS and 245Nm electric motor, while the larger battery pack is outfitted with a more powerful 143PS and 250Nm electric motor.

The Nexon.ev will continue to compete with the Mahindra XUV400 EV as well as the MG ZS EV. Prices for the Tata Nexon.ev facelift will only be announced on September 14 and will be slightly more expensive than the current Nexon EV Prime's starting price of Rs 14.49 lakh.
