BMW to launch 5 cars in India by January 2023

Alongside the launch of the BMW XM, the facelifted M340i and the S 1000 RR superbike at the first Joytown event held in Delhi recently, BMW India announced it would launch five more cars over the 8 weeks or by the end of January 2023.

BMW X7, 7 Series and i7

Of the five cars, three are expected to be from the topost tier of BMWs. The facelifted BMW X7 SUV is on the cards. The SUV gets the new split headlamp look as well as some minor revisions to the rear. There is a new cabin with the iDrive 8 infotainment system with its 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen integrated in a curved display. You also get a slightly reworked dash with slimmer vents and lighting elements. The 3.0-litre inline-6 petrol engine should continue but with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, putting out 380PS and 519 Nm.

The new BMW 7 Series and its new electric derivative, the i7, see a full generation change. The 7 Series has grown in length by 130mm to 5,391mm, the width has expanded by 48mm to 1,950mm, and the height has increased by 51mm to 1,544mm. There are no longer two wheelbase options. You get the latest split headlamp treatment, a larger grille and simpler body lines. The interiors have seen a big step up with the same iDrive 8 infotainment system and a criper dash design with ambient light highlights. Engine options should be shard with the X7 and include 3.0-litre inline-6 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel options.

The i7 electric version carries a dual-motor setup that together outputs 544PS, enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just over 4.5 seconds. On a full charge, the 101.7kWh battery pack provides a WLTP-tested range of 590-625km.

Other launches - BMW 3 Series and X1

The other two launches could be the facelifted 3 Series as well as the new X1. The facelifted 3 Series' new form debuted with the M340i and the updates should now extend to the 3 Series Gran Limousine as well as the standard 3 Series. Changes include new screens, slightly reworked dash panels, more features and sharper exterior styling.

Also expected is the new generation of the BMW X1. The current SUV has been due for an update for a while and this generation sees it grow larger on the inside and out. There is a new A 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.7-inch central infotainment screen as well as a new dash design with a toggle-type shifter and floating centre console.

The 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines should continue from the last version with 48V mild-hybrid enhancements while there should be more equipment on offer too. The iX1 electric derivative should also follow soon after.
