BMW Group India achieves best-ever Jan-Sept sales
BMW Group India has announced record-breaking sales performance in the first nine months of this year across its three brands: BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad. The combined sales for BMW and MINI amounted to 9,580 cars, with BMW leading the way by selling 8,998 units, while MINI contributed with 582 units sold.
Notably, BMW's electric vehicles (EVs) marked exceptional growth, with five times more electric models sold during the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2022. The iX emerged as the brand's best-selling EV in India. Further, the highly anticipated iX1 is already sold out for the entire year of 2023. Collectively, BMW and MINI reached an important milestone by delivering 1,000 electric vehicles in India.
Particular BMW models such as the 7 Series, X7, i7, and XM demonstrated an impressive 102 per cent year-on-year growth, with the demand for the X7 nearly doubling between January and September this year. This strong performance in the SUV segment contributed to these brands' outstanding sales figures. The X5 also enjoyed notable popularity among buyers.
On the MINI front, the locally assembled Countryman constituted 63 per cent of the total sales, with the MINI Hatch and Cooper SE making up 17 per cent each of the overall sales.
Turning to the world of motorcycles, BMW Motorrad reported a significant 26 per cent growth, achieving a total of 6,778 units sold until September 2023. The G 310 RR, G 310 R, and G 310 GS models accounted for 88 per cent of these sales. Moreover, the high-end Completely Built-Up (CBU) units also saw a 36 per cent growth. The GS Adventure segment has been gaining increasing popularity in the country, with over 10,000 GS motorcycles sold in India so far. The sport bike segment, comprising models like the S 1000 RR, M 1000 RR, and M 1000 R, also attracted considerable interest among Indian buyers.
