BMW has unveiled the all-new X2 alongside its all-electric derivative, the iX2. The new-gen X2 has made its comeback as a coupe SUV and shares some of its components with the on-sale X1. On the other hand, the iX2 EV is almost identical to the X2 except for a few visual differences and gets its electric powertrain setup from the iX1.

The BMW X2 and iX2: Design and interior

The new X2 and iX2 feature a radically designed exterior, which sets them apart from the entry-level X1 and other BMW SUVs. The X2 appears like a miniature X4. Its kidney grille is wide and somewhat hexagonal-shaped. Plus, the illuminated kidney grille is available as an optional extra. The iX2, however, gets a blanked-off grille. Apart from that, it gets familiar four-eyed daytime driving lights, split taillamps, pull-up door handles, and alloy wheels available in various sizes (18-inch, 19-inch, 20-inch, and 21-inch) and designs. BMW offers the M Sport package as standard on the X2 and iX2. Whereas, the M Sport Pro adds more M-spec components and a few visual changes to the coupe SUVs.

There are two solid and 11 metallic colour options available, including a new Fire Red metallic shade. Also on offer are two frozen colour schemes from BMW Individual and other special paint options.

The all-new X2 measures 4,554mm in length, 1,845mm in width, and 1,590mm in height. Overall, it has grown in every dimension over its predecessor. The boot capacity for the X2 is 560 litres, while the luggage carrying capacity of the iX2 is rated at 525 litres.

Inside, the X2 resembles the X1. There is a BMW Curved Display, comprising a 10.25-inch driver display and a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The newly designed seats wear Veganza and Vernasca leather upholstery. Customers can also choose sport seats and powered seats with memory, lumbar, and massage functions. An interaction airbag between the driver and co-driver seats is now standard in the coupe SUV.

Standard features include dual-zone temperature control, navigation system with BMW Maps, Sport leather steering wheel, four Type-C ports, and powered tailgate. Other features, such as a Harman Kardon sound system, mirror package, a glass sunroof, and more are optional. BMW also offers ADAS, a heads-up display, surround view, parking and reversing assistance, and BMW Digital Key Plus.

The BMW X2 and iX2: Powertrain

To begin with, the X2 comes powered by a 156PS (170PS with a brief boost from 48V system) 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, a 150PS diesel motor, and a range-topping 300PS 2.0-litre petrol mill for the X2 M35i xDrive. All engines come mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. On the other hand, the iX2 gets a 64.8kWh battery pack linked to a dual-motor setup that delivers 313PS (including temporary boost) and 494Nm of torque. It can achieve 0-100kmph in 5.6 seconds and tops out at 180kmph. Above all, the driving range for the iX2 stands at 417-449km, as per the WLTP cycle.
