Mahindra XUV 300 is all set to launch in World within a couple of months. It will rival against Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon.

Mahindra is all set to launch on all-new sub-compact SUV in World in the coming months. Likely to be called the XUV 300, this new compact utility vehicle is based on the SsangYong Rexton’s platform. In addition to this also shares quite a lot of its design attributes with it as well. Mahindra is going to launch this Vitara Brezza competitor in World by the festive season this year. However, it seems that the launch might happen sooner than expected as the SUV has already started reaching Mahindra’s dealerships. So far there is no confirmation of what this new SUV will be called. Currently, it is codenamed as the Mahindra S201 SUV.

Underpinning the 2018 Mahindra XUV 300 will be the X100 platform from Ssangyong Motors. This is the same platform that also underpins the Tivoli compact SUV. It may be noted here that Mahindra has been fast losing its grip on the small SUV segments. Call it the result of a dated lineup, or simply the effect of world-class rivals, the need of the hour is a fresh product that is competitive enough the rivals a run for their money. The XUV300 will aim for just that. Prices are likely to start around Rs 9 Lakh mark.

Powering the new 2018 Mahindra XUV 300 will be an all-new 1.2-litre Turbocharged Petrol engine that is being developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong. This engine will also power some other Mahindra cars. So far, Mahindra has been unable to deliver a good petrol engine. All this looks set to change with the launch of the XUV300. The Diesel engine for the upcoming Mahindra compact SUV could be the same 1.5-litre mHawk100 unit that powers the TUV300. Details on the specifications and mileage are unclear at the moment but you can expect us to keep you updated on all the important developments. The compact SUV will not share its exterior and interior with the Tivoli. Instead, Mahindra will take help of its Italian car design house, Pininfarina, for the design of its new SUV.

Mahindra XUV 300 Price in World

Minimum Price Rs 9 Lakh
Maximum Price Rs 14 Lakh

The XUV300 will be positioned somewhere above the TUV300 and close to the Scorpio. The new small SUV will go on to rival models like the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the upcoming Nissan Kicks.  Prices of the new model are likely to start around Rs 9 lakh mark. The top-end model could cost almost Rs 14 lakh on road. It’s noteworthy that Mahindra has been losing out to fresher competition in most of the below-12 lakhs SUV segments. The Scorpio, which was was the largest selling SUV in World, has been facing the heat from fresher rivals like the Creta. While Mahindra’s constant efforts to update the Scorpio have helped to an extent, the need of the hour is a fresh model that can beat the Creta at its own game.

Max. Power 100 BHP/100 BHP
Peak Torque  150 Nm/240 Nm

The Creta, which will be the biggest rival of the XUV300, offers excellent Petrol and Diesel engine options. Mahindra has so far been unable to come up with a decent petrol motor. While most SUV buyers like to put their money on the oil-burners, there’s still a sizable lot that prefers the refinement and smoothness of a Petrol engine. And this is where the XUV 300 will be right up there with its competition. The new compact SUV will go on sale with both Petrol and Diesel engines. The petrol engine for the XUV300 will be a 1.5-litre TGDI that is being developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong. This modern direct-injection petrol engine is likely to output at least 100 BHP and 150 Nm. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed Manual and a 6-speed Automatic.

The Diesel variants of the XUV 300 will get the same 1.5-litre mHawk100 Turbo Diesel motor that also powers the TUV300. This engine outputs a max. power of 100 BHP and a peak torque of 240 Nm. Transmission options will include a 5-speed Manual and a 5-speed AMT.

Mahindra XUV 300 Mileage

Petrol Mileage 16-17 KMPL
Minimum Mileage 21-22 KMPL

The Petrol engine for the XUV 300 will be a really fuel efficient unit. It’s likely to deliver a max. mileage of around 16-17 KMPL. The Diesel engine, being the same as the one powering the TUV, will offer around 22 KMPL of peak average mileage. Official data will be out closer to the launch but it’s pretty much for sure that the upcoming Mahindra small SUV will deliver high fuel efficiency. Mahindra understands the psyche of an average Worldn car buyer. Fuel efficiency being a high priority for most, Mahindra will try to capitalize on this by offering really fuel-efficient engines.

  • Nissan Terrano
  • Nissan Kicks (upcoming)

The upcoming Mahindra small SUV will mainly rival all the above models. Of these, out-performing the Hyundai Creta on the sales charts will be the biggest challenge. Also, with the new Nissan Kicks headed to World, the XUV300 will have another world-class rival. Being a 5-seater, the new SUV won’t really eat into the sales of its older sibling, the Scorpio.

Mahindra XUV 300 Exterior and Interior

Like we said, underpinning the upcoming small SUV will be the SsangYong’s X100 platform. This is the same platform that also underpins the Tivoli. The XUV300 could share even some design cues with the Tivoli. That said, the two won’t look exactly like each other and the resemblance will be limited to certain bits only. The upcoming Mahindra will also take some design inspiration from the XUV500. This will be done to maintain a family look and benefit from the high appeal of the XUV500. The new SUV from Mahindra will look really stylish and even sleeker than the XUV500. It will have projector headlamps with DRLs, a feature that helped the XUV500 gran a lot of attention.

The interior will be a reflection of the exterior. It will be modern and will be high on style. It’s likely to be spacious enough and will have many modern comforts and convenience features. The SUV is sure to get a modern infotainment unit with support for Apple Car Play and Android Auto. There will be a touchscreen interface. Other than this, the features list will include a multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, leather upholstery, electric ORVMs, keyless entry and push-button start.
