The new Audi A4 will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show towards the end of August 2015 with an international launch soon afterwards. World should get the car in the second half of 2016.
Prices will be unveiled only at the time of the international launch, but keeping in mind the A4‘s latest competition, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, we expect them to hover around the INR 40 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
From what we can gather from the spy shot and the current trend among the newly launched Audis, the styling will be sharper and will be inspired from the Prologue Concept. The hexagonal grille up front is expected to be wider and similar in style to the new Audi R8 and Audi TT. The headlamps are visibly sharper and will get the usual Audi elements such as the single projector unit with LED daytime running lights. At the back, the tail lamps are expected to get LED detailing similar to the Audi Q7, Audi A6, and they also resemble the Audi A3 to a certain extent. Inside you will find an interior layout similar in design to the new Audi Q7, so there’s a new centre console, gear lever, steering wheel, AC vents, etc.
Engine options include a new version of the 2.0 litre TFSI petrol making 190 bhp and 320 Nm torque. There are also two other petrol motors; 1.4 litre TFSI and 3.0 litre V6 TFSI. As far as the diesel engine options are concerned there will be a 1.6 litre TDI along with a 2.0 litre and 3.0 litre TDi units as well. The new Audi A4 is based on the second-generation of the company’s MLB platform which basically means it will be bigger than the car it replaces and lighter by around a 100kg.
The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has set the bar very high with its baby S-Class like character and matching that will be a huge task in itself. But Audi is more than capable of taking the fight to compatriots Mercedes-Benz and it will be very interesting to see how this rivalry develops.
