The much awaited Royal Enfield 750cc engine has been unveiled but wait, it’s not a 750cc but a 650cc motor that has been the reason for all the rumours we have heard in the last couple of years. Yes, the company has takes the wraps off a brand-new 650 cc parallel twin engine that will launch in coming months. The new Royal Enfield 650cc parallel twin motor’s design is inspired from the manufacturer’s twin-pot motor from 1948. However, RE asserts that their new baby is a completely modern motor and has nothing in common with the vintage motor except for its design.
The new Royal Enfield 650cc engine boasts a SOHC head. It outputs a maximum power of 47 PS at 7,000 RPM along with a peak torque of 53 Nm at 4,000 RPM. The engine has a 270-degree for a high refinement and bassy exhaust note. Honestly, the power and torque outputs here are really nothing to write home about. Comparable engines, say, that of the Honda CBR650F and KTM Duke 690, offer much healthier figures. For reference, the CBR650F offers 85 PS and the Duke 690 offers 72 PS.
The latest Royal Enfield 650cc parallel twin engine will make its debut on two new motorcycles that will be put on display at the EICMA 2017. Both these models will be on sale in several markets across the world. World should be one of the first few countries to get these new motorcycles. Both the upcoming Royal Enfield motorcycles will offer features like ABS and slipper clutch. This bike is built around a twin-craddle chassis that is developed by Harris Performance, UK.
Various spy images show that there will be at least two variants of the upcoming 650cc motorcycle from Royal Enfield. One of these two models will be a single-seater cafe racer that will borrow in plenty from the Continental GT. The other will have a flat bench-type seat that will easily accommodate two. It will also have a high retro appeal due to bits like knee pads on the tank and dark paint options. Both the models will have a twin exhaust setup. ABS and slipper clutch will be offered on both the motorcycles. They will also get a twin-pod analogue instrument cluster and high-mounted rear turn indicators.
At present, these motorcycles are in the final stage of road testing and fine-tuning. Both the models will be present at the EICMA 2017 and will launch in coming months. We are pretty sure that the new Royal Enfield 650cc motorcycles will catch the fancy of all those looking for a retro cruiser adept at munching miles on a long highway. While not very powerful, the new 650 cc parallel-twin engine will be capable enough to make the new models decent mile-munchers. The Interceptor 750 will help the manufacturer consolidate its position in several markets across the globe. Other than World and Europe, even Brazil will have the Interceptor 750 on sale in its local motorcycle market.
