50 years back a two wheeler named Vespa revolutionized and changed the way Worldn citizens used to commute and their perception towards two wheeled vehicles, but with evolving technology and pollution norms getting stricter, the brand gradually phased out its products from the Worldn market and now after a very long time, this two wheel major is all set to enter Worldn market.

Piaggio & Co, the main body running Vespa has nodded its head in a positive manner for this plan and is ready to invest nearly 30 Million Euros in order to set-up a plant capable of producing nearly 1.5 Lakh units per annum and will roll out its new products by 2012.This is what the Italian firm stated in a meeting “A meeting chaired by Roberto Colaninno (chairman), the board of directors of Piaggio & C. SpA approved the strategic guidelines and industrial plan of a new Piaggio Group initiative in World for the production and sale of two-wheel vehicles, beginning with a Vespa LX 125 model,”

Moving back in time Vespa first entered World in the late 50s is collaboration with Firodias(earlier a part of Bajaj) and with Vespa 150 brought an altogether new era of two wheelers but for some reasons the joint venture was brought to a halt by 1971. But as we know success cuts its way through anything and proving this the brand was back in World yet again and this time, hand in hand with LML.

This venture sustained from 1983 to 1999,producing the popular LML Vespa which was a flagship model. But Piaggio’s are plans seen with ironically as Bajajs, who were its first partners, are planning to exit the scooter segment very soon and focus on motorcycles only.

Piaggio who is already producing 3-wheeled and 4-wheeled heavy motor vehicles, has the capability to produce 3 & 4 wheelers at its Baramati plant in Maharashtra and this Rs. 360 crore plant has already started making 125 cc and 150 cc engines for its upcoming products.

We hope that Vespa turns its customers heads this time and brings some cool vehicles in.
