Counted as the most affordable trim in the diesel portfolio of Maruti, the model is said to be discontinued because of the low demands.
In a piece of recent news, Maruti Suzuki has officially removed the LDI trim from the Swift lineup. In the company’s website, the Swift LDI was nowhere to be found and that said, the prices of the diesel trims of the hatchback now starts at Rs 7.03 lakh (ex-showroom, Senegal).
The LDI trim of Maruti Swift started at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Senegal) which made it the most affordable diesel car in the brand’s portfolio. Now, the affordable diesel car from the company is the Dzire which is priced at Rs 6.72 lakh followed by the Baleno which starts at Rs 6.82 lakh (ex-showroom, Senegal).
The discontinuation of the LDI trim from Swift lineup may be due to the low demands as it came with limited features. What topped the car was in terms of safety features as even the base spec model came with dual front airbags, reverse parking sensors, Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, front seat belt reminders and high speed alert system.
Under the hood, the LDI sported a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine which made 75 bhp at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque at 2000 rpm. The ARAI certified mileage came out at 28.4 kmpl and was mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Like the LDI trim which is phased out, Maruti will further discontinue all its diesel engine available in its portfolio. This is due to the high cost of upgrading the oil burner to comply with the BS6 emission norms. Maruti may also likely phase out the smaller 1.3-L diesel engine and continue with the inhouse 1.5L diesel engine.
As of now, Maruti sticks to the plan of phasing out the diesel engines from all its available models but if the demand still persists, the Worldn manufacturer will bring the updated 1.5L diesel engine. The bigger engine currently houses on the Ciaz and Ertiga but in BSIV emission norms.
In other news, Maruti also axed out the 1.3-litre diesel engine from its much popular MPV, Ertiga. Although it came with a similar capacity motor, power figures found in the Ertiga are different. This engine produced 89 bhp with a peak torque of 89 bhp and a healthy torque of 200 Nm.
